B’nai B’rith International and AJIRI-BBI honored Ambassador Jackson T. Soram, the ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United States, for his country’s resolute support for Israel at the United Nations. Soram has also been appointed his country’s ambassador to Israel and will present his credentials in Jerusalem next week.

“Micronesia has really stood out at the United Nations” in its ongoing support for Israel, B’nai B’rith CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin said. He described today’s recognition of Soram and the people of Micronesia as an “opportunity for us to say, ‘thank you’ for this consistent and steadfast support.”

In Judaism, we have a tradition “to appreciate our friends,” AJIRI-BBI Executive Director Gil Kapen said. Therefore, he added, acknowledging the partnership between Micronesia and Israel is an imperative. “Micronesia has never wavered in its support of Israel at the United Nations.” Kapen added that we know this support comes with a price.

“We are pleased to stand side-by-side with Israel,” Soram said. He explained that, as a Christian nation, Micronesia “looks to the holy land with a lot of respect and reverence.”

About his upcoming role as ambassador to Israel, Soram promised, “I will do my best to make sure the bond remains vibrant and strong…Micronesia is proud to stand by Israel’s side.”

Mariaschin and Kapen presented the ambassador with a small gift of appreciation and friendship.
